Asante Kotoko has confirmed that the club will head to the Court of Arbitration for Sport ( CAS ) to seek redress over the 30-month ban imposed on midfielder Richmond Lamptey.
Richmond Lamptey who joined Asante Kotoko last year from Inter Allies was slapped with a 30 months ban by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for his involvement in a match manipulation in the final game of the 2020/21 season involving his former club Inter Allies and Ashantigold SC.
Asante Kotoko was unhappy with the verdict, hence filed an appeal to the Appeals Committee of the Ghana FA. However, the appeal was thrown out.
In the latest development, the club has divulged that it has directed its legal team to begin processes at CAS in respect to the ban.
“Management this morning have directed our legal team to begin processes at the Court of Arbitration for Sport ( CAS ), in respect of the Richmond Lamptey’s appeal,” a tweet revealed.
Should CAS not overturn the verdict, Richmond Lamptey will be out of action for 2 years and 6 months starting September 2022.
