Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak to represent Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Interclub competitions [Find out key dates for the competitions]

Ghana’s most successful clubs Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak will represent Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Interclub competitions.

Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League as winners of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League, while Hearts of Oak will represent Ghana in the CAF Confederations Cup as winners of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup.

This will be the first time the two clubs will together present Ghana in the CAF Interclub competitions since 2015 when Asante Kotoko featured in the Champions League and bowed out in the first round of the qualifying round and Hearts of Oak played in the Confederations Cup and bowed out in the final qualifying round.

Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will commence their respective CAF competitions between September 9-11, 2022.

The two clubs will have between August 1 to August 15, 2022 to register their players for the two CAF Competitions. Each club is expected to register maximum 40 players.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has until July 31 to communicate to CAF that Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in Africa.

Key dates for the two CAF Competitions

Registration Period (Players eligible as of the 1st preliminary round – no fine): 01 – 15 August 2022

1st Preliminary Round (Home/ Away): First leg to be played between 09 – 11 September and second leg between 16 – 18 September 2022.

2nd Preliminary Round (Home/ Away): First leg to be played between 07 – 9 October and second leg between 14 – 16 October 2022.

CAF Confederations Cup Additional 2nd Preliminary round (Home/Away): The two legs to be played between 2 – 9 November.

Additional Registration Period: 1 – 31 January 2023.

Group stages Match Day 1: 10 – 12 February 2023.

Group stages Match Day 2: 17 – 19 February 2023.

Group stages Match Day 3: 24 – 26 February 2023.

Group stages Match Day 4: 7 – 8 March 2023.

Group stages Match Day 5: 17 – 18 March 2023.

Group stages Match Day 6: 31 March– 2 April 2023

Quarter Finals (Home/Away): First legs to be played between 21 – 23 April and second legs between 28 – 30 April, 2023.

Semi-Finals (Home / Away): First legs to be played between 12 – 14 May and second legs between 19 – 21 May 2023

Finals: To be played between 2 – 11 June 2023.
