Asamoah Gyan declares his long-standing dream to play for Asante Kotoko before hanging his boots

Ghana’s all time leading top scorer Asamoah “Baby jet” Gyan has reiterated his dream of playing for Asante Kotoko before he hangs his boot.

Asamoah Gyan featured for Liberty Professionals in the 2003 Ghana Premier League season. The center forward scored 10 times in 16 games that season, he finished 3rd on the top scorers chart behind Shaibu Yakubu and Kwadwo Poku.

Asamoah Gyan has travelled around the world, he has featured for clubs in Italy, France, England, UAE, China, Turkey and India.

The 35 year old who has had a quite “okay” career is close to hanging up his boots and has managed to achieve most of his dreams from childhood, but it is only one dream that still hangs in the air, playing for Asante Kotoko.

The nation’s top scorer in an interview with TV3 divulged that he has been a staunch fan of the club since childhood. He also went on to declare his desire to play for the club before he finally says Goodbye to football.

“I’ve supported Kumasi Asante Kotoko since I was a kid, till now. I even said to myself that I had to play Kotoko, but I didn’t have the chance to play before traveling outside” he told TV3 Sports.

“I have said that I have to wear the red shirt before I call it a day. I want to finish my career at Kumasi Asante Kotoko.”

He continued, “There are so many people when they were kids, they will tell that I want to be a doctor, but they end up being a nurse, or a waitress, they end up being a hostess.”

“So its something I want to do, I want to end my career with Kotoko” he concluded.
