The Spanish outfit suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of RB Leipzig.

Goals from Dani Olmo and Tyler Adams for Leipzig and a consolation from Joao Felix ensured that Leipzig won 2-1 and progressed to the semifinal of the Champions league, whiles Atlético Madrid bow out.

With the results leaving a huge dagger in the hearts of Atlético Madrid fans, well it was excitement for Arsenal fans who believe Atlético Madrid’s exit will accelerate the negotiations for the possible transfer of Thomas Partey from Atlético Madrid to the Arsenal.

The 27-year-old has in recent months been heavily linked with the Gunners, with recent reports indicating Atlético who are open up to selling the defensive midfielder at the right price have halted all discussions as they wanted to focus on the Champions league.

But with Atlético Madrid out now, there’s hope that negotiations will continue and Partey will eventually end up at the Emirates.

Thomas Partey who didn’t feature in Atlético’s 2-1 defeat to Leipzig has a £43.5 million release clause and a contract that runs till 2023 at Atlético Madrid.
