Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjo Fianoo has revealed that Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will receive GH₵ 50,000 each for accepting to play in the President Cup.
GHALCA on Tuesday announced that Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will face-off in the President Cup on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Accra Sports Stadium at 6:00 pm.
The game will be the second time the two teams will meet this season following Sunday’s scoreless draw, before another meeting in April in the second leg of the ongoing Premier League.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Chairman of GHALCA, Kudjo Fianoo divulged that both teams will share GH₵ 100,000 and 25% each of gate proceeds.
“Football is all about Business and at the same time to bring us together. So, the two clubs will take an appearance fee of GH₵ 50,000 each and then the gate proceeds will be shared,” GHALCA boss Kudjoe Finaoo told reporters.
“Ghalca as an Organizers will take 50% and the two clubs will share will take 25% each of the remaining 50%. There will be a trophy and other medals.”
When asked how much will be paid as gate fee, he said: “We the organizers are yet to settle on a fee but we are starting from GH₵ 20 for popular stands, GH₵ 50 for centerline, GH₵ 70 for lower VIP, and GH₵ 100 for VVIP,” he said.
The President Cup which is played in honor of the sitting president of Ghana returns after two years absence.
The last edition was won by Asante Kotoko after they came from a goal down to beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in December 2019.
Asante Kotoko have won the trophy the most, winning it on 6 occasions, 2 more than bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak.
