Andre Ayew and Swansea City earn Championship playoff spot in dramatic fashion

André Ayew and Swansea secured a place in the end of season promotion lottery to decide the final Premier League place for next term.

Swansea City were three points off a play-off place going into the final day of the Championship.

The Swans needed to win and hope that either Cardiff City would lose at home to bottom side Hull or that Nottingham Forest would be beaten by Stoke, with a five-goal turnaround in Swansea’s favour.

The merely “impossible” transpired as Swansea defeated Reading 4-1 away from home, with Nottingham Forest losing at home 4-1 to Stoke City.

Swansea finished the season in 6th place with 70 points and plus 9 goals. Just a goal better than 7th place.

Andre Ayew was instrumental in the truimph as he provided the assist for Swansea’s third goal of the game.

The Black Stars skipper featured in 43 league games for Swansea, scoring 15 goals and providing 7 assists.

Leeds United and West Brom secured automatic Premier league qualifications. Swansea will have to battle Brentford, Fulham and Cardiff for the last Premier league slot.

Swansea City will play Brentford on July 26th and 29th, and Fulham will play Cardiff City on July 27th and 30th. The Championship playoff final will be played at Wembley on August 4th.
