Ampem Darkoa Ladies learn fate after new WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League draw

Ghana’s Women’s Premier League Champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies learnt their fate after a new draw for the 2023 West Africa Zone B (WAFU B) Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

The organizers of the competition conducted a mini draw in Benin City, on Friday, following the withdrawal of Niger’s AS Garde Nationale from the competition.

AS Garde National officially withdrew from the competition, citing the closure of the country’s Air and land borders amid the current political unrest in the West African country.

In the new draw, Delta Queens from Nigeria, USFA from Burkina Faso and Sam Nelly FC from the Benin Republic were paired in Group A.

Group B is made up of Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies, Amis Du Monde from Togo and Athletico D’Abidjan from Ivory Coast.

The competition which was originally scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 18 has been rescheduled to Sunday, August 20, 2023.

The winner of the competition will secure a place in the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League to be played from Sunday, November 5 to Sunday, November 19, 2023 in Ivory Coast.

In the first edition of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers in 2021, Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies emerged winners. Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC won the second edition after beating Ampem Darkoa ladies in the final.
