The Ghana Football Association (GFA) earlier today launched the Division One League Super Cup at the Ghanaman Soccer centre of excellence in Prampram.
The Division One League Super Cup is specially created for the best performing clubs in the Division One League, that is the winners of each zone, second placed teams in each zone and two of the third best placed teams at the end of every season.
The competition was created to give Division One clubs more games outside the League and as well serve as a preparatory ground for the clubs ahead of a new season.
The first edition will be contested by newly promoted Premier League sides Real Tamale United, Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Lions. They’ll be joined by three second placed teams, namely, Tano Bofoakwa, Skyy FC and Tema Youth while two third best placed teams Berekum Arsenals and FC Samartex 1996 join to make it an Eight club competition.
The teams would be divided into two groups, where the first two teams in each group will qualify to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals advance to the final and the losers play another game to determine the 3rd and 4th placed sides.
The competition will commence on the weekend of September 19 with the 8 qualified teams camping for a week before the start of the tournament.
The Technical Centre of the Ghana Football Association – Ghanaman Centre of Excellence at Prampram will host the novel Tournament.
Imax Media, a fully-owned Ghanaian private multimedia broadcasting organization that operates one television and two radio channels, namely: Max TV – A digital terrestrial free-to-air channel based in Accra and Max FM – (Accra)| Maximum FM (Takoradi) won the Production Rights to broadcast the matches.
The Mini tournament will also give additional incentive to clubs and players ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, the 2021/22 Division One League will commence on Friday, October 29 and end on Sunday June 12, 2022.
