All you need to know about Medeama’s Champions League opponents, Remo Stars

Ghana Premier League Champions Medeama SC have been drawn against Remo Stars FC in the preliminary rounds of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League.

Medeama will first host Remo Stars between August, 18-20, before traveling to Nigeria for the return leg which will be played between August 25-27, 2023.

The winner of the two-legged tie will play against 20-time Guinean champions, Horoya in the second round of qualifiers, with the first leg scheduled for September 15-17 and the second leg September 29 to October 1.

• Remo Stars Football Club is a professional football club based in Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria. The club competes in Nigeria’s topflight league, the Professional Football League and are nicknamed the Sky Blue Stars.

• The club was founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname, a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur, sport enthusiast and the chairman of Bet9ja, a betting website he founded in 2013.

• Remo Stars was first named FC Dender until 2010 when the team went under a massive rebranding.

• The Sky Blue Stars are managed by Daniel Ogunmodede, who served as Assistant Coach for Portuguese side CD Feirense in the 2021/22 season.

• Remo Stars play their home games at the Remo Stars Stadium. A ground with 5,000 capacity.

• The primary color for Remo Stars is Sky Blue, While the away strips is yellow and the alternative color is white.

• In 2010, the club was promoted to the second tier of Nigerian Football, the Nigeria National League (NNL). Remo Stars secured promotion to Nigeria’s topflight league in 2016 but were relegated back to the second tier league in 2018.

• In September 2021, Remo Stars returned to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), where they’ve since played in.

• The team’s biggest rivals are second tier side Gateway United FC, while Ijebu United are considered to be primary rivals. Remo Stars additionally share a rivalry with Shooting Stars.

• This is the first time the team is participating in the CAF Champions League. Remo Stars have in the past featured in the CAF Confederations Cup on three occasions.
