All set for AFCON 2023 as Cameroon beat Burundi to secure final slot

Cameroon became the last team to secure a ticket at the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in Ivory Coast in January and February next year.

The Atlas Lions secured a 21st appearance at the AFCON after beating Burundi 3-0 in the final Group C game, securing top spot in the group.

Bryan Mbuemo, Christopher Wooh and Vincent Aboubakar scored in the second half to ensure Cameroon secure a place at the AFCON which is scheduled to be played in June and July but was postponed to January 2024 due to the weather conditions in the host country.

The feat makes Cameroon the last team to secure a place at the AFCON to be played from Saturday, January 13 to Sunday, February 11, 2024.

The other 23 qualified teams include; Ivory Coast (hosts), Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Egypt, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Mali and Guinea.

Other qualified teams are; Ghana, Angola, Tanzania, Mozambique, DR Congo, Mauritania, Gambia, Cameroon, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and Namibia.

The official Draw for the biennial comps which be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 in Cote D’Ivoire.
