Two times African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Hervé Renard has disclosed why Ghana’s all time leading top scorer Asamoah Gyan failed to reach greater heights in football.

According to the one time Black Stars assistant manager in an interview with TV3’s Juliet Bawuah, Asamoah Gyan failed to reach greater heights because he wasn’t as dedicate in training like he was in football games.

“The quality of Asamoah Gyan was amazing. I was always impressed with his timing of headers. He was a very good goal scorer, a fantastic player, an amazing player. ”

“But I have something to tell him. He was supposed to have a better career, but he was lazy,” Renard said while laughing.

“In training, he was lazy. He only likes games. Simply he was the most important player but I know him and he didn’t like the training, he only likes the competition, the games,” he concluded.

Herve Renard was Ghana’s assistant coach at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations tournament hosted in Ghana.
