Africa Football legend Abedi Pele has hailed Ghana’s all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan over his astounding career with the Black Stars, but believes Asamoah could have done much better internationally.
Asamoah Gyan who made his debut for Ghana in 2003 is the player with the most goals and most appearances, 51 goals in 109 appearances.
The former Sunderland forward has represented Ghana in multiple tournaments including the FIFA World Cup on 3 (2006, 2010, 2014) occasions, the 2004 Olympic Games and 7 different AFCON tournaments.
“ He (Asamoah Gyan) has done quite well. I saw him play when he was coming up and I knew he was going to be a great player”, Abedi Pele said on GTV sports +.
“He did quite well with the Black Stars, but maybe he could have done much better internationally, and that could have even strengthen him more than what he’s today.”
“But when I saw him, I knew he had something unique, especially in front of goal he was deadly, he’s just like Tony Yeboah.
“Because he has the strength, he has the ability to weave through occasionally and the physical presence. So that gives him an edge”, he added.
Asamoah Gyan is Africa’s all-time scorer at the World Cup with 6 goals.
