Best eleven (11) of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League season

After ten months, ten long months of football, Medeama were crowned champions of the betPawa Premier League title, winning the league on the final day of the season.

Aduana FC finished in second place, Bechem United in third place place and Asante Kotoko in fourth placed. At the other end of the table, King Faisal, Tamale City and Kotoku Royals suffered relegation.

Now that the season is over and new season is almost in our hands, MahamaShaibu.com thought it was the perfect time to look back at the best performers and performances of the year.

Here’s our betPawa Premier League team of the season:

Goalkeeper: Felix Kyei – Karela United/Medeama

It was a toss of the coin between Felix Kyei and Joseph Addo, but we had to just give the nod to the Medeama goalkeeper for leading his side to win the trophy. Felix started the season with Karela but joined Medeama in the middle of the season. He made 30 appearances for the two teams, kept 15 clean sheets and conceded just 21 goals. Kyei was named goalkeeper of the month in March.

Defense: Stephen Anokye Badu – Aduana FC

Unfortunately for Stephen Anokye Badu, his team missed out on the league despite sitting top for most parts of the season. Individuallly, Badu could hold himself high for his fine display all season. He made 32 appearances and helped the team keep 18 appearances. Anokye was also effective in attack, scoring 2 goals and was a winner of 3 man of the match awards.

Defense: Vincent Atinga – Medeama

No defender made more goal contributions than Vincent Atinga. The Medeama center-back finished the season with 11 goals, contributing to 25% of the goals scored by his team. Atinga was also fantastic in defense, helping his team keep 13 clean sheets and as well secure the league title.

Defense: Nurudeen Abdulai – Medeama

Nurudeen Abdulai formed a great partnership at the back for Medeama with Vincent Atinga. The 18-year old made 29 appearances for the Mauves and Yellows and helped the team keep 12 clean sheets, while conceding just 24 goals. Nuru scored 3 goals and won 4 man of the match awards (the most won by a center-back).

Midfield: Seidu Yussif Dauda – Samartex

What a season it has been for them mechanic but now footballer! Seidu Yussif Dauda gave the Samartex midfield proper cover throughout the season. The defensive midfielder made 29 league appearances, scored 2 goals and won 5 man of the match awards.

Midfield: Michel Otou – Legon Cities

It has been an incredible season for Michel Otou, standing tall in the Legon Cities team that survived relegation on the final day of the season. The experienced midfielder made 28 appearances for the Royals and scored 7 goals. He also won 6 man of the match awards, the most by any player.

Midfield: Seth Kwadwo – Bechem United

What a signing Seth Kwadwo turned out to be for Bechem United. The youngster signed from Division One side Nkoranza Warriors and went on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in the country. Seth made 30 appearances for the Hunters and provided 8 assists, winning 5 man of the match awards (second most in the league).

Midfield: Stephen Dankwa Badu – Real Tamale United (RTU)

Stephen Dankwa Badu took off from where David Abagna left off, ensuring that Real Tamale United (RTU) cemented their status in the league for another season. The midfielder scored 6 goals and provided 7 assists in 26 appearances. He as well won 3 man of the match awards.

Forward: Hafiz Konkoni – Bechem United

One of the easiest to pick to make in the team of the season. Hafiz Konkoni finished the season as second top scorer, a record which earned him a call-up to the Black Stars. The center forward finished the season with 15 goals in 25 games. He won 4 man of the match awards and was named player of the month of April.

Forward: Abednego Tetteh – King Faisal/Bibiani GoldStars

Abednego Tetteh dumped his struggles at Hearts of Oak to excel in the 2022/33 season, finishing the season as the player with the most goals. He played for King Faisal and Bibiani GoldStars in the season and scored 18 goals, scoring 16 of those goals in 19 appearances for GoldStars. Tetteh as well won 4 man if the match awards.

Forward: Sampson Eduku – Tamale City

Despite Tamale City’s failure to cement their status in the topflight league for another season, Sampson Eduku was a menace to defenders throughout the season. He scored 14 goals and provided 4 assists for Tamale City in 27 appearances, winning the man of the match award in 4 games.
