The 2023 WAFU Zone B Boys U-20 Cup of Nations will kick start today in Côte d’Ivoire as six teams battle for the ultimate.
Group A for the tournament consist of host nation Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Niger. Group B will have only Benin and Togo following Nigeria’s withdrawal.
The opening game of the competition will see host nation Côte d’Ivoire face Burkina Faso at the Stade Robert Champroux de Marcory at 15:00 GMT today.
In the second which is also scheduled for today, Ghana who are hoping to make amends after last year’s horror show in Niger will come up against Niger.
The second group games will see Burkina Faso play Ghana on Monday, July 10 at 15:00 GMT and Côte d’Ivoire face Niger on the same day at 18:00 GMT.
In the final group games on Thursday, July 13, Côte d’Ivoire will play Ghana and Niger face Burkina Faso. The only game of Group B which is between Benin and Togo is scheduled for Friday, July 14.
The top two placed sides in Group A advance to the semifinal to square off with Benin and Togo. Winner of Group A will play second placed in Group B and the winner of Group B will play second placed in Group A.
The winners of the semifinal secure a place in the final to be played on Friday, June 21.
Nigeria won the last edition played in Niger last year, beating Benin 3-1. The Flying eagles will be unable to defend their title after pulling out of the competition.
