The Black Satellites (Male U-20) conceded late to draw 1-1 with Niger in their opening Group A game of the 2023 WAFU Zone B Boys U-20 Cup of Nations taking place in Côte d’Ivoire.
Ghana dominated the opening minutes of the game and went head in the 19th minute, Mustapha Yakubu of Heart of Lions curled in a free-kick from the edge of the box.
The Black Satellites after going ahead created numerous chances to go ahead but failed to take any due to a combination of poor finishing and poor decision making.
The missed chances came back to bite Ghana as they conceded in the final minutes of the game to draw 1-1.
In the other Group A game, host nation Côte d’Ivoire lost 1-0 to Burkina Faso, Konaté Avdouramane scored the only goal of the game.
The competition will resume on Monday, July 10. Burkina Faso will face Ghana at 15:00 GMT and Côte d’Ivoire face Niger on the same day at 18:00 GMT.
