2023 U23 AFCON Qualifiers: How Ghana could lineup against Algeria

The Black Meteors (U-23) will take on their Algeria counterparts in the second leg of the final qualifying round of the 2023 CAF U23 Championship at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The first leg between the two sides played days ago in Algeria ended 1-1. A win or a scoreless draw in today’s encounter will be enough to earn Coach Ibrabim Tanko and his team a place at the Championship to be played in Morocco in June this year.

Ibrabim Tanko and his team have been handed a major boost for the game following the return of skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh. The FC Zurich forward missed the first leg due to suspension.

All other players are fit and available for selection for the return leg.

How Ghana could lineup

Ibrahim Tanko is expected to make few changes to the team that drew in Annaba on Friday. Asante Kotoko shot stopper Ibrahim Danlad is expected to maintain his place in goal.

The back four is expected to be occupied by Karela’s Augustine Randolf, David Oppong of King Faisal, Aaron Essel of Bechem United and Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye of Great Olympics.

In midfield, Emmanuel Essiam of FC Basel, Dominic Nsobila of Accra Lions and Alex Opoku Sarfo of Aris FC are expected to be selected.

Skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is expected to come in for Zubairu Ibrabim in attack, while Sporting Lisbon’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and FC Nordjaelland’s Ernest Nuamah maintain their places in the team.

The game will kickoff at 19:00 GMT.
