2023 U-23 AFCON: Rampant Morocco humiliate Ghana

Host nation Morocco defeated Ghana 5-1 in the second Group A game of the TotalEnergies U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Morocco had a fast start to the game and went ahead in the 7th minute, Amir Richardson’s cross eluded the Ghana defense and creeped into the net.

The host nation doubled their lead in the 14th minute after a lengthy VAR check, Ismael Saibairi beat the Ghana defense to lob the ball over Ibrahim Danlad.

Morocco continued to dominate the Ghana and scored the 3rd in the 29th minute, Yenis Begraoui finished off a decent team move.

Salim Adams scored in the 42nd to reduce the deficit and give Ghana hopes of a comeback, but the hopes were dashed in the 48th minute when Morocco scored the fourth, Abdessamed Ezzalzouli the scorer.

Morocco rounded the game off in the 53rd minute, Yenis Begraoui scored his second of the day and his team’s fifth, 5-1.

The 5-1 win sends Morocco into the semifinal ahead of their final group game against Congo on Friday, June 30. For the Black Meteors they’ll hope to bounce back to winning ways on the same day against Guinea.
