Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars were held to a scoreless draw by Madagascar in the fifth qualifying round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Stade Kianja Barea in Antananarivo.
The Black Stars saw more than 60% of possession in the first half but finished the half but failed to create any chance, finishing the half without an attempt on goal.
Ghana commenced the second half just like they played in the first half and came close to scoring the opener in the 57th minute, a free-kick from Thomas Partey was smartly kept out by the goalkeeper.
The Black Stars continued to control the game but they could hardly trouble the Madagascar goal. Madagascar soaked the pressure and could have had a goal in the final minutes of the game, Ibrahim Amada forced Lawrence Ati Zigi into making a save from a free-kick.
The draw leaves Ghana frustrated but takes the team a step closer to securing a place at the 2023 AFCON to be played in Cote D’Ivoire next year.
Ghana after five games sit top of Group E with 9 points, Angola sit in second place with 8 points, followed by Central African Republic with 7 points and Madagascar with 2 points.
