Head Coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton will announce his squad for the final Group E game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Central African Republic this week.
The squad for the crucial game is expected to be dominated by players who were involved in the scoreless draw against Madagascar in Antananarivo in June this year.
The likes of Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey,, Mohammed Kudus, Alidu Seidu, Joseph Paintsil, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Osman Bukari, Ernest Nuamah, Daniel Amartey and so on are expected to make the squad.
Despite being without a club since the ending of last season, skipper Andre Ayew is expected to make the squad for the big clash.
Baba Rahman, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Gideon Mensah and Alexander Djiku are expected to return to the team after missing the previous game due to injuries, while Tariq Lamptey and Mohammed are not expected to make the squad despite recuperating from respective injuries.
Majeed Ashimeru and Joseph Wollacott will both miss the game due to injuries. Abdul Samed Salis is a doubt after getting subbed off at halftime of Lens’ 3-1 defeat to PSG over the weekend due to an ankle sprain.
Baba Iddrisu who has been out of the team since September 2022 is expected to make a return, earning his first call-up under Chris Hughton.
Reports also stipulates that Jonathan Sowah has been handed a call-up for the game. Sowah scored 12 goals in 20 games to propel Medeama to their maiden betPawa Premier League title last season.
The game against Central African Republic is scheduled for Thursday, September 7 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Ghana need a win or a draw to secure a place at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be played in the Cote D’Ivoire in January and February next year.
The Black Stars after 5 group games sit top of Group E with 9 points. Angola sit second with 8 points, Central Africa Republic sit third with 7 points and Madagascar bottom with 2 points.
The should also invite Bernard Tekpete to join the national team since he is also doing well at his club.
