Ghana lost 3-2 to Portugal on their opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The first half of the game ended scoreless. Portugal dominated the half and created the best chances. Cristiano Ronaldo came close twice and saw a goal ruled out for an infringement.

Ghana had a good start to the second half but were unfortunately caught at the other end when Portugal was awarded a controversial penalty in the 65th minute. Ronaldo stepped up and converted the kick, becoming the only player to score in 5 different World Cups.

The Black Stars didn’t let the goal bog them down as they committed more bodies forward and grabbed the equalizer in the 73rd minute, Andre Ayew was at the right place to tap in a cross from Mohammed Kudus.

In sharp contrast to the first half, the goals continued to flow. First, Bruno Fernandez provided two assists as Portugal scored two goals in the space of three minutes through Jao Felix and Raphael Leao to make it 3-1.

That wasn’t the end of it, Ghana pushed bodies forward and pulled a goal back through Osman Bukari to give the game a frenzy finish, but Portugal held on to win 3-2.
