The Black Galaxies defeated Benin 3-0 to take advantage into the second leg of the first round of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Ghana after coming close twice in the opening 20 minutes through Evans Osei Wusu and Daniel Afriyie broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. Daniel Afriyie scored from a spot-kick.
The Black Galaxies thought they had doubled the lead after a shot from Jonah Attuquaye deflected off a defender and went pass the goalkeeper. However, the goal was illegitimately ruled out.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Ghana doubled their lead through center-back Mohammed Alhassan, pouncing on a loose ball after a good delivery from a corner-kick by Ibrabim Imoro.
The Black Galaxies continued to probe and extended their lead in the 81st minute, skipper Gladson Awako after receiving a good pass from Umar Bashiru curled the ball pass the helpless goalkeeper.
Ghana continued to create good chances but couldn’t take the chances as it ended 3-0.
The victory gives the Black Galaxies the advantage going into the return leg to be played on Saturday, July 30 in Cotonou.
