2023 CHAN Qualifiers: Black Galaxies player ratings and assessment versus Benin

The Black Galaxies commenced the TotalEnergies 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers with a 3-0 victory against Benin at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Ghana grabbed their goals through Hearts of Oak trio Daniel Afriyie, Mohammed Alhassan and Gladson Awako.

Here’s how MahamaShaibu.com rated and assessed the players:

1. Danlad Ibrahim – 7.5/10

Danlad Ibrabim didn’t have much to do in post, he barely made a save but was needed in some few occasions to act as a sweeping goalkeeper.

2. Augustine Randolf – 7.5/10

Augustine Randolf had some few bad touches but entirely he was calm at the back and always gave his team an option anytime he joined the attack, his combination with Evans Osei Wusu was a delight to watch.

3. Ibrabim Imoro – 7.3/10

The Asante Kotoko left-back struggled in the first half of the game but stepped up his game in the second half. He provided the assist for the second goal.

4. Mohammed Alhassan – 8/10

Mohammed Alhassan defended well and gave his team an attacking option with his long balls. The Hearts of Oak deputy skipper scored the second goal of the game and could have had a hand in another goal.

5. Konadu Yiadom – 7.7/10

Konadu Yiadom was gallant at the back as the Black Galaxies kept Benin at bay. His partnership at the back with Mohammed Alhassan was unimpeachable.

6. Razak Kasim – 7.8/10

The Great Olympics midfielder demonstrated why he’s amongst the best midfielders in the league currently. He gave the defense good cover and was as well decent on the ball.

7. Evans Osei Wusu – 8/10

Evans Osei Wusu is destined for greatness. The youngster was immense throughout the game. He gave Augustine Randolf the much needed support in defense and was equally effective in attack. His crossing resulted in the penalty for the first goal.

8. Suraj Seidu – 6.8/10

The Hearts of Oak midfielder was unlucky not have scored in the first half when he got on the end of a pull back from Awako. Suraj didn’t see much of the ball like he’d want to but did the simplest things anything he was on the ball. He was replaced by Umar Bashiru in the second half.

9. Daniel Afriyie – 8/10

Another slick performance from Daniel Afriyie. The Hearts of Oak forward was a menace to the Benin defense throughout the game. He scored the first goal of the game and really should have scored another.

10. Gladson Awako – 8/10

A captains performance from Gladson Awako. The skipper glided around the turf and persistently evaded challenges as he attempted to wreak havoc in the final third. His goal was the highlight moment in a fine display.

11. Jonah Attuquaye – 7.7/10

Jonah Attuquaye was a constant threat for the Benin defense with his trickery and is pace throughout the game. The Legon Cities forward was unfortunate to have a legitimate goal ruled out for offside.


1. Umar Bashiru – 7.5/10

Came on in the opening twenty minutes of the second half for Suraj Seidu and added more creativity to the midfield. He provided the assist for the third and final goal.

2. Denis Korsah – N/A

Came on in the final minutes of the game and didn’t have much time to have influence on the game.

3. Agyenim Boateng – N/A

Came on in the final 10 minutes and didn’t have much time to have effect on the game.

4. Dominic Nsobila – N/A

Subbed on with only a minute to end the game.
