2022/23 GPL: Top six (6) transfer moves on deadline day

Finally an end to what was has been an exciting and busy eight (8) weeks of transfer activity. Over 100 transfers were made by the 18 clubs to feature in the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League, with a number of these transfers coming on the final day.

Here, we look at the top six transfers on the final day of the window;

1. Maxwell Abbey Quaye to Hearts of Oak

The biggest and most surprising move on deadline day, Maxwell Abbey who was out of contract with Great Olympics and they were hopes of him signing a new contract with the club joined bitterest Hearts of Oak in the last minute on a 3-year deal, a move that will leave the fans of Great Olympics fuming for months to come.

2. Kofi Kordzi to Legon Cities

Finally an end to what has been a disappointing second marriage between Hearts of Oak and Kofi Kordzi. The bulky center-forward fell out with the Management of the club after a decent start on his second coming which saw him score 9 goals in his first 15 games. Kordzi was declared surplus requirement by the club weeks ago. The 27-year was offered a way out by Legon Cities on the final day of the window, signing a reported 2-year deal.

3. Hans Kwoffie to Medeama

It was hard to think Hans Kwoffie was still going to have a life at Legon Cities following a recent interview that saw him accuse the club of maltreatment and abandonment. The one-time Ghana Premier League golden boot winner signed for his hometown club Medeama on the final day, a club be played for between 2009-2015.

4. Abdul Manaf Umar to Real Tamale United (RTU)

Had a fine start to life at Accra Hearts of Oak but struggled to get playing minutes since the arrival of Samuel Boadu. Abdul Manaf Umar became a subject of war between Tamale rivals Tamale City and RTU on the final day of the window. Manaf was on the verge of joining Tamale City but RTU pulled one out of the hat to secure his service on a free transfer.

5. Abednego Tetteh to King Faisal

Joined Hearts of Oak at the start of the 2020/21 and was expected to blossom. However, that didn’t materialize as he finished the season with no goals in five league appearances. The center-forward who made his name during his stint with Bechem United in 2016 will have a chance to redeem himself at King Faisal. He joined the club on a 2-year deal on deadline day.

6. Fredrick Ansah Botchway to Samartex 1996

What a transfer window Samartex have had! Management has augmented the side with a number of experienced players and Frederick Ansah Botchway becomes their latest acquisition. The midfielder after a turbulent final days at Hearts of of Oak joined the Premier League new boys on the final day of the transfer window in a lucrative deal.
