2022/23 GPL: RTU rally from behind to beat Asante Kotoko

Real Tamale United (RTU) came from a goal down at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the final game of the betPawa Premier League ahead of the start of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The two teams came into the game at the back of disappointing results in their respective previous games, RTU lost 2-1 to Great Olympics and Asante Kotoko drew 1-1 at home to Legon Cities.

Asante Kotoko dominated the opening 30 minutes of the game and came close to scoring through Steven Mukwala in the 27th minute.

The Porcupine Warriors had the break through in the 43rd minute through George Mfegue. The Cameroonian volleyed a loose ball from the edge of the box past the goalkeeper.

RTU returned to the break a much better side, passing the ball around beautifully. The home side got the leveler in the 63rd minute, Issah Kuka was at the right place to finish off a good team move.

Minutes later, RTU took the lead through David Abagna. The skipper robbed the ball off Mubarik Yussif and calmly placed the ball into the net.

In the remaining minutes of the game, Asante Kotoko pushed bodies forward for the equalizer but RTU held on to win 2-1.
