2022/23 GPL: Improved Legon Cities silence noisy neighbors; King Faisal pick maiden win of the season; Chelsea pick late point in Tamale: Gameweek 6 Results and Standings

Legon Cities displayed a spiriting performance to beat neighbors Great Olympics 2-0 at the El-wak Stadium.

The Royals declared their intentions straight from the blast of the referee’s whistle, creating problems for the Great Olympics defense through Kofi Kordzi and skipper Jonah Attuquaye.

In the 41st minute, Legon Cities were awarded a spot-kick after Razak Kassim tripped Alex Aso in the box. Michel Otou stepped up and made no mistake with his kick, 1-0.

In the second half, the Royals continued to dominate the game and should have extended their lead in the 50th minute, Kofi Kordzi missed a glorious opportunity.

Ten minutes later, Legon Cities put the game to bed, Sulemana Mohammed picked up a loose ball from a long throw and fired it beyond the helpless goalkeeper.

The remaining minutes of the game saw no goals as Legon Cities held on to win 2-0.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, King Faisal recorded their maiden win of the season, beating new boys Kotoku Royals 2-1.

Samuel Adom Antwi opened the scoring for King Faisal in the 27th minute. Abednego Tetteh made it 2-0 in the 57th minute from a spot-kick, before substitute Emmanuel Marfo pulled one back for Kotoku Royals later in the game.

In Tamale, Berekum Chelsea scored late to draw 2-2 against Tamale City.

Chelsea struck first through Kalou Outtara in the 18th minute, before Tamale City turned the game around through Raphael Essien and Isaac Mensah in the 32nd and 55th minute respectively.

In additional time, Mezack Afriyie struck to make it 2-2 and in the process steal a point for his team.

The games will continue tomorrow, Medeama will host holders Asante Kotoko at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.

On Sunday, Hearts of Oak welcome Karela United to the Accra Sports Stadium, Bechem United play Accra Lions, Nsoatreman host Dreams, Real Tamale United (RTU) welcome Aduana and Samartex play Gold Stars.
