2022/23 GPL: Hearts of Oak rally from behind to grab first win of the season against Gold Stars

Accra Hearts of Oak rallied from behind to beat Bibiani Gold Stars 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians headed into the game with a new manager and in search of their first win of the season after three league games played.

However, the club’s problems were compounded after just 9 minutes into the game. Prince Owusu Kwabena gave Gold Stars the lead, he robbed the ball off Samuel Inkoom before hitting a shot pass Richmond Ayi who was off his line.

The Phobians started to dominate the game and had the ball at the back of the net in the 63rd minute from an indirect free-kick. Nevertheless, their joy was cut short when the referee ordered for a retake.

He decision led to a scuffle between the players, Gold Stars goalkeeper Joseph Baah was sent off for assaulting an opponent.

The Phobians took advantage of the red card and grabbed the equalizing goal in the 78th minute, substitute Isaac Mensah fired in a low shot from Otanga’s cross.

Hearts of Oak continued to mount pressure on Gold Stars and were rewarded with the lead and the winner in the 88th minute, Gladson Awako curled in a free-kick from the edge of the box.

The win is the Phobians’ first win this season from four league games played.
