The 2021/22 Division One Zone Two League table has taken a different shape after Kotoku Royals were declared winners of their protest game against Heart of Lions.
Kotoku Royals after their Gameweek 18 meeting with Heart of Lions at the Akim Oda Sports Stadium which ended 1-0 in favor of Heart of Lions protested against them for using an unqualified player in the person of Abdul Mohammed Musah
Per the protest from Kotoku Royals FC, Abdul Mohammed Musah had received three cautions prior to Matchday 18 and was suspended for the said match.
Kotoku Royals argued that by failing to serve the one-match suspension and playing in the said match, Heart of Lions FC has violated Article 28.1(e) and 28.2(a) of the GFA Division One League Regulations and therefore should be punished.
Hearts of Lions in their defence admitted that the player was suspended for the said match and the club was duly noted that he was unavailable for the match.
According to Hearts of Lions, unintentionally without malice, the player’s name was inadvertently selected in the team sheet and could not correct it due to internet challenges before the match kickoff.
Heart of Lions FC stated that attempts to effect changes to the team sheet before kickoff also proved futile and thus pleaded for leniency.
After making its findings, the FA in accordance with Articles 33(2) and 34(12) declared the match forfeited, thus awarded Kotoku Royals three points and three (3) goals.
In addition, Hearts of Lions were deducted three (3) points from the club’s accumulated points from their previous matches. The DC as well fined the team Two Thousand and Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢2,500.00), of which over 50% will go to Kotoku Royals.
